When I was a kid I moved around into different foster families a ton. I hardly lasted a year within one family, so I don't know how accurate this memory is because in the grand scheme of things it's such a brief period that this takes place in. But, when I was around 12 I had a stepsister who was always playing flashgames in her free time, and I found the site she was playing on: Starkidsgames.com
I found out it's still up yesterday, comic sans and all still intact. But there is something. So weird about it. Maybe they themed it for Halloween one year and never changed it back or something. It's just. Way redder than I remember.
The games are about these three girls doing girl shit, but that's not really as relevant as the fact that I've found tons of Easter eggs of the Drowytown characters. For example in Linda's dressup there's a billboard with Pokey on it in the city backdrop. Could be worth checking out?

eyyyy johnny my guy!!! on the topic of that website you mentioned... that does sound pretty weird lol. man what's with those kinds of sites and suddenly taking a turn to random out of nowhere gore. i swear i can name like. several of those off the top of my head. like that one time a dev just. permanently killed off one of their characters and made the rest of them go through the grieving process. man what's with flash game sites these days. anyways, i'd wager it probably was some sort of rebound from the original site or something. or a tie-in thing? i think drowsytown games was made by a different company though... uncle wiley's games or something. i'll definitely check it out
